I'm sure you have been hearing this advice a lot; "Eat your veggies", "Daily recommendation is 400-500gr of veggies per day" and some other benefits of veggies. I won't go into that in this post, but I simply want to show you how easy, delicious and nourishing your veggie meals can be.
I thrive myself to have all the colours in my daily meals (the red, orange, yellow, green, blue/purple/black and white/tan/brown foods). That's challenging but rewarding. There is a specific phytonutrient (or phytochemicals) in each colour and they are extremely important in several layers of our health. They are powerful defenders against chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and cancer, accordant to several studies. Phytonutrients stimulate enzymes that help the body get rid of toxins, boost immune system, improve cardiovascular health, promote healthy estrogen metabolism, and stimulate the death of cancer cells.
In this smoothie, I used 200gr of fennel which is already half of the veggie daily intake which contains loads of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. I love fennel for its licorice-like flavor and health benefits. Ancient practitioners used fennel in natural remedies, and the practice continues. This amount of fennel contains the same concentration of potassium (360mg) as a medium banana but with way lesser sugar/fructose. Avocado and sweet potatoes are 3 times more richer in potassium than bananas also. Potassium is one of the most important minerals in the body. It helps regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions and nerve signals.
Another two important ingredients in this smoothie are ginger and oranges which are extremely powerful for our immune system and contains high levels of phytonutrients responsible for nourishing our gut cells. Ginger helps digestion, reduce nausea and help fight the flu and common cold, to name a few other benefits. I like buying an organic cold pressed ginger juice which makes life so much easier. I highly recommend this brand for its pure ginger juice. It's enriched with some natural spices and it tastes amazing. Easy to mix on my morning apple cider vinegar, teas and smoothies like this one. You check their products here. A little disclaim here ... I have no financial benefit in promoting them... I do it simply because I trust their product.
