Cold Low Carb Drinks

Summer days are already shinning up and spoiling us with such gorgeous long and warm days. How nice it feels to gather with your family or friends in the garden enjoying a lovely drink. Or simply on your own at home after a long day of work while preparing your dinner. 


But there is a big concern for those who are following a low carbohydrates food protocol such as a ketogenic plan or a parasite/candida treatment. No sugar and no starch is allowed. Only a certain restricted amount of sugar is tolerated in these protocols. 


Today I was asked by a client of mine what drink apart from water he could drink, especially after work before his diners. He has been following ketogenic plan in order to eliminate parasites from the digestive tract and as it is well known, in this protocol, there is no sugar or starch.

There are thousands of way of creating refreshing drinks without sugar, from fermented drinks such as kumbucha to simple home made ice teas. I will give you all here in this blog couple of ideas. 

Enjoy these recipes:

Portion: 4 people

1) Cucumber mint juice

  • 1 cucumber

  • 1 lemon

  • 1 small piece of ginger

  • 1 kiwi or 1/2 green apple

  • 100gr of mint leaves

  • 1 liter water

  • crushed ice

Blend it all in the blender for 2 minutes

2) Cold golden milk

  • 1 liter unsweetened almond milk

  • 2 tsp curcuma powder

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 5 drops of stevia

  • crushed ice

Blend it all in the blender for 1 minute

3) Cold Caramel drink

  • 1 liter unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 tbsp lucuma

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • crushed ice

Blend it all in the blender for 1 minute

4) Cold Mint Hibiscus tea

  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus

  • 4 cup water

  • optional: cinnamon stick or handful fresh mint leaves

  1. Place dried hibiscus and optional spices/herbs in a large pitcher.  Pour in 4 cups water.  Cover with lid and place in the fridge overnight or up to 24 hours.

  2. Strain tea and discard dried hibiscus.

  3. Sweeten tea as desired with simple syrup.  Start with 1/3 cup simple syrup for a lightly sweetened tea or up to 1 cup for a sweet tea.  Store in the fridge until ready to serve.  Serve over plenty of ice.
