Case study 3: Jack's Health Journey

Jack, a 36-year-old father of two, was struggling with chronic sleep deprivation, anxiety, and poor concentration at work. He had started a new exercise and diet regime, including protein smoothies, but soon began experiencing muscle and joint pain, abdominal bloating, and discomfort.

Initial Findings:

After consulting his GP, Jack was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a medical condition characterized by chronic musculoskeletal pain, poor sleep, cognitive dysfunction, and widespread pain. Antidepressants and pain-relief medication were prescribed, which caused Jack to gain weight and feel groggy, despite some pain relief.

Second Opinion:

Distraught with his diagnosis, Jack sought out a second opinion from me. My root cause analysis and speciality testing revealed that Jack had been previously overlooked for hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid that can cause fatigue, muscle pain, stiffness, impaired memory, and other symptoms.

Additional Findings:

I also discovered that Jack's adrenal glands were out of balance, causing cortisol levels to spike at midnight, disrupting his sleep. Food sensitivity testing showed severe reactions to bananas, beans, and the protein smoothie powder Jack had been consuming, which contributed to his abdominal pain and bloating. Jack was also deficient in Omega 3, magnesium, and other key vitamins and minerals, leading to difficulties sleeping, depression, mood problems, and aches and pains.

My Action Plan:

I prescribed a personalized health plan for Jack, starting with an elimination nutrition protocol to clear his body of inflammatory foods and chemicals. I also recommended high-quality, third-party-tested supplements to address Jack's deficiencies, including magnesium, curcumin, fish oil, and herbs like Holy Basil to support adrenal glands and control cortisol spikes. Mind Body Wellness meditation classes were also recommended to combat anxiety, promote restful sleep, and enhance emotional and physical well-being.

Outcome:

Jack diligently followed my nutrition and lifestyle guidelines, and his pain dissipated almost immediately after starting the elimination protocol. His sleep improved, and anxiety significantly lessened, leading to a new and improved outlook on life. Jack is now looking forward to embarking on new adventures with his children.
